About the Project
Broedell Plumbing Supply is a Florida company based in Palm Beach County that has thirty-five years of experience selling kitchen and bathroom products. With five locations across the state, they needed a website that would represent their focus on modern style while appealing to their local Florida customer base.
I visited the headquarters of Broedell in Jupiter, FL and photographed their showroom, operations, and premises. In fact, every photo on the site, including the gallery images, is from the actual Broedell offices. In addition to the photos accurately representing their company, I created an interactive Flash store locator that allows users to click on a listed store to zoom in and see the contact information. This serves to let visitors easily see all the stores before digging-down to the contact info. Static location information is also given for users without Flash.
The design of the site is a graphic merging of the company’s main functions: plumbing supplies and the tracking and distribution of those supplies. The long white tube under the main menu is a nod to classic PVC piping, while the Flash headers swipe in from the left as if to wash into the pipe. Important information and links to other areas of interest of the site are located in boxes which resemble file folders signifying the tracking of orders. Shadows were used to produce the effect of these file boxes floating in order to create a sense of depth in the composition.
Browns, light blues, and lime greens were used to reinforce a calm, clean, modern design feel. A JavaScript image gallery uses a blocked pattern of image previews separated by refined, muted color blocks to introduce visitors to Broedell’s showrooms. The main menu uses JavaScript to drop down secondary menu items for fast access to supporting pages.
